• 12 Things Not to Say to a Teen Hillary Supporter

    1. “Hillary is so artificial / robotic.” Meaning, she actually has well thought-out policies backed by facts, rather than nonsensical sound-bites. For example, Trump’s only proposal on immigration is to build a “great, great wall” that he insanely thinks Mexico will pay for. On the other hand, Hillary has detailed plans for immigration reform and improving the pathway to citizenship.

    2. “I hated Hillary’s outfit last night.”Don’t get me wrong, Hillary’s pantsuits are literally amazing. But why don’t people feel the need to comment on Trump’s outfits? One word for ya: sexism.

    3. “What has Hillary accomplished in 30 years?” Umm… let’s see. She’s protected the rights of women and children, declaring in Beijing in 1995 that “human rights are women’s rights and women’s rights are human rights.”She helped leadthe investigation of health issues faced by 9/11 first responders and obtained $21 billion from the government to rebuild New York City.As Secretary of State, Hillary built alliances all around the world, traveling to 112 countries—I could go on about her accomplishments all day. Seriously.

    4. “Hillary is such a liar. I don’t trust her.”In a study of 20 politicians’ comments, she was rated the second-most truthful. Check out what actual fact-checkers are saying rather than buying into right-wing smear tactics.

    5. “Trump is such a good businessman.” Trump’s companies have declared bankruptcies four times. He’s stiffed a ton of his workers on wages. And don’t forget—he started in business with a $14 million loan from his dad!

    6. Hillary and liberals are too politically correct.” There’s absolutely nothing wrong with promoting tolerance and respect. Period.

    7. “The Clinton Foundation is terrible.”The Clinton Foundation has helped more than 435 million people in over 180 nations get clean water, HIV medicine, malaria vaccines, and fight malnutrition. And it has the highest rating by charity watchdogs. Is there something so terrible about that?

    8. “Hillary will just be another 4 more years of Obama.” And that’s a bad thing?! Obama’s done an incredible job for our economy and our country, with an unprecedented high approval rating.

    9. “I prefer Bernie—Hillary isn’t liberal enough.” Hillary’s actually adopted a lot of Bernie’s positions—for example, Hillary supports creating free community college for families who make less than $85,000 a year, and eventually for families who make less than $125,000. That seems pretty liberal to me. Hillary and Bernie also agreed on almost every issue in the Senate.

    10. “I don’t know why, I just don’t really like Hillary.” I’ve heard this one a lot, and it’s one of the most frustrating things you could say to a Hillary supporter. What it really comes down to is this: who has the most experience and is the most capable of leading our country? Whether or not Hillary would be your BFF is irrelevant (although I’d personally love for her to be mine). The fact that she’d be a great president is what matters.

    11. “Hillary doesn’t look presidential.”Ahhh, sexism rears its ugly head for the 92385725th time in this election. Ugh. Why do we care what she looks like? I’ve never heard someone say that Trump, or any male politician, doesn’t “look” presidential. It’s time to stop associating looking presidential with being a man.

    12. “I don’t care about this election. Politics has nothing to do with me.”That’s just not true! There are so many issues at stake here that already impact you, or will impact you super soon. Think about college debt, LGBTQ+ rights, and climate change, to name just a few. It’s incredibly important to follow this critical election (and check out www.teens4hillary.comfor the scoop)! Let’s make sure we end up with Madam President!
